Cut from Limited Edition Russian Grain Genuine Horween Shell Cordovan, this sober “stitchless” rendition of the classic strap requires more work than usual and some hidden details which are a high expression of true craftsmanship.
The strap is unlined, to keep it lighter and to highlight the suppleness of this special leather.
Great resistance to water and to wrinkles, it will age beautifully and gain a charming patina over time.

The leather used to craft these straps is a limited edition shell cordovan, produced in very small quantities, that has been given a traditional “russian grain” finish during production in the Chicago based tannery Horween, (which started producing Shell Cordovan back in 1905, and have kept the tradition alive ever since.)

There are two factors that make Shell Cordovan one of the most expensive leathers available in the market.
First is the time it takes to be produced.
The irregular oval shaped shells are tanned, stuffed, shaved, and then polished – a process taking at least six months.
Each shell is slowly steeped in gentle vegetable liquors. The shells are hot stuffed then slicked onto glass frames to dry. Each shell is hand curried and shaved by highly skilled artisans to expose the shell.
Secondly, because there is a limited supply of quality horse hides (most of the hides that are used to produce Shell Cordovan today come from France and Canada – two countries where horse meat is eaten). These two factors combine to limit supply, and the constant demand keeps prices very high.

There are only a few tanneries in the world that still produce Shell Cordovan, and without doubt the best one is Horween, Chicago, USA.
